How to install zanich on Windows

Before you start

These are one-time installs. If you have used PowerShell before, you may have them already — the first step checks.

1. 1

   Install Git

   Run the installer, then reopen PowerShell.

   Open installer ↗

   Install Node LTS

   Run the LTS installer, then reopen PowerShell.

Install zanich

   Open PowerShell

   Keep it open beside this page.

   You know this worked when: PowerShell is open

2. 4

   Check Git and Node

   Git and the current Node LTS are required.

   Type this into PowerShell, then press Enter.

   git --version
   node --version

   You know this worked when: Git and Node respond with version numbers

   Install Python

   Run the installer, then reopen PowerShell.

   Open download ↗

   You know this worked when: python3 --version prints a version

4. 6

   Copy zanich to this PC

   Type this into PowerShell, then press Enter. The first line moves you into the folder this step runs in, so it works in a window you have just opened.

   cd ~
   if [ ! -d ECC/.git ]; then
   git clone https://github.com/affaan-m/ECC.git
   fi

   You know this worked when: A ECC folder appears

5. 7

   Open the zanich folder

   Type this into PowerShell, then press Enter. The first line moves you into the folder this step runs in, so it works in a window you have just opened.

   cd ~
   cd ECC

   You know this worked when: Your terminal prompt is inside the ECC folder

   Use the reviewed version

   Type this into PowerShell, then press Enter. The first line moves you into the folder this step runs in, so it works in a window you have just opened.

   cd ~/ECC
   git checkout 5064474d4d762dc9640234a41617cccb79185cec

   You know this worked when: Git reports the reviewed commit

7. 9

   Install dependencies

   Type this into PowerShell, then press Enter. The first line moves you into the folder this step runs in, so it works in a window you have just opened.

   cd ~/ECC
   npm.cmd install

   You know this worked when: The command finishes without an error

8. 10

   Try zanich

   Keep PowerShell open.

   Type this into PowerShell, then press Enter. The first line moves you into the folder this step runs in, so it works in a window you have just opened.

   cd ~/ECC
   npm.cmd run command-registry:check

   You know this worked when: zanich opens

9. 11

   Allow Screen Recording

   Approve it when Windows asks.

   You know this worked when: Screen Recording is turned on

10. 12

    Try it

    zanich should be open and ready to use.

    You know this worked when: zanich works

If something goes wrong

Nothing here can damage your computer, and every step can be run again safely. If a command fails, the usual cause is the step before it not having finished.
